Only a month since its soft opening, The Palms Denarau Fiji recorded an all-time peak of 88 per cent occupancy during the Easter Long weekend.

General manager Ogina Lata said the project worth over $28 million had a soft opening on March 1.

An official opening is expected soon but yet to confirm in which month.

Meanwhile, the modern luxury complex is an investment by local business tycoon, Hari Punja and managed by his sons, Ajay and Rohit Punja.

Ms Lata said: “Any business in the beginning grows slowly but we did not have much marketing in advance but if we had done that, it would be a different story.”

Ms Lata added initially the complex was for the residential apartments but it then changed to hotel apartment which had a lot of variations.

“Slow marketing is the best thing to do especially when you fill up the place very quickly for a new complex like this and if there is are teething issue then likely big issues arises,” she said.

“In the beginning of March we were running on low occupancy but by Easter weekend we had 88 per cent which was the highest we got.”

She said the future bookings for 2016 looks great.

Ms Lata added they are employing more than 20 people excluding the Cafe-O- staff.

Features

The Palms Denarau comprises of daily serviced 10 studio rooms, 10 guest room suites, 14 two bedroom apartments and 4 three bedroom apartments.

Apartment features include fully-equipped kitchenette, washing machine, dryer, SKY TV channels and bath tub with separate shower.

Ms Lata said Cafe O’ is the cafe found on the ground floor which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

There is a thermo-stat swimming pool, gym at site, Wi-Fi and car park space available.

The tour desk will be managed by Fiji’s Rosie Holidays and should be fit in by this weekend.

Interest and sales

Ms Lata said they have gained a lot of interest already even before the opening.

“We have both local and corporate rates and is subject to availability. We also have special rates during the non-peak period,” she said.

“When guests book direct, there is no special rate unless they go through a wholesaler.”

FTE 2016 and opening

The third Fijian Tourism Expo will be staged in Denarau from May 3 to 5.

The Palms Denarau will be part of the event to showcase the great diversity and quality of products available in Fiji to the existing and new international industry partners.

“We are looking forward to this event as this is a good place under one roof to sell our new products and also to meet other product managers and to sell Fiji as a tourism destination,” Ms Lata said.
