We are here to provide professional advice to the Minister and to the government on how we think to move this Ministry forward with its objectives: Singh

The Minister for Agriculture Inia Seruiratu and the staff of the Ministry welcomed the newly appointed Permanent Secretary for Agriculture, Jitendra Singh, at the ministry of agriculture headquarters in Raiwaqa on Wednesday.

Mr Seruiratu said that there was a change in leadership but the organisation remains the same and it needs all it’s staff contribution.

“There is a need for staff to identify their responsibility and be loyal within the institution and act accordingly,” Mr Seruiratu said.

According to Mr Singh, the Ministry of Agriculture plays a very important role in any society because each individual cannot avoid having a tool in their respective homes.

He said agriculture was a very core part of any government policy agenda in order to have its population development maintained and objectives achieved.

“While working with Reserve Bank of Fiji, I had a very little interaction with the agriculture sector and I guess this is a challenge, but today am very humble to work closely with the expertise within the ministry and look forward to learn in order to drive our ministry forward,” he said.

“I am keen to learn with your co-operation and assistance in this manner because I do not know the ministry’s stage at the moment,” he added.

He added the ministry needs to sight on the processes of how things are done in a manner of inviting expatriate to share ideas and innovation to improve the agriculture sector.

“We have to bring changes to our environment in terms of policy and technology to be incorporated to our ministry,” he added.

Mr Singh reminded the staff that the mandate given by the Government for all Permanent Secretaries is to lead the ministry in accordance to golden policy agenda.

“We are here to provide professional advice to the Minister and to the Government on how we think to move this ministry forward with its objectives.

He stressed the need for staff to remain united in order to move the ministry forward.
