High school student makes Fijiana squad for Atlanta 7s

Jasper High School student and Commonwealth Youth Games Fiji Rugby representative, Merewai Cumu will make her debut at Atlanta and Langford 7s.

Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer, John O’Connor congratulated the players on their selection and wished them all the best for the Atlanta and Langford 7s.  He welcomed the two new debutants into the team, saying that they have shown that rugby is a sport all women can enjoy and that nothing is impossible once you set your mind to it.

Major sponsors, Telecom Fiji CEO, Mothilal De Silva said it was an honour for them to be associated with the Fijiana.

“At Telecom Fiji Limited, we believe in empowering Fijians be it in the field of technology, communications, community projects or sports. Our association with the Fiji women’s national team is an honour and we are proud to be their naming rights sponsor. We hope to encourage more women participation in sports through our sponsorship. We wish the Telecom Fijiana all the best in the upcoming tournaments and look forward to their participation at Rio Olympics.”

Also making the squad is former Fiji netball captain Matila Waqanidrola and they depart Nadi International Airport today.

Squad: Litia Naiqato, Asinate Savu, Rusila Nagasau, Talica Vodo, Jiowana Sauto, Ana Maria Roqica, Miriama Marama, Viniana Riwai, Miriama Naiobasaga, Rebecca Tavo, Lavenia Tinai, Luisa Tisolo, Matila Waqanidrola, Merewai Cumu. Management: Chris Cracknell, Iliesa Tanivula, Jennifer Khalik, Mathew Dooley.
