QVS Welcomes Move by Govt

Queen Victoria School in Tailevu has welcomed the move by Government to bring in Indonesians to rebuild their school.

This was after the prominent boarding school was devastated by the monster Tropical Cyclone Winston in February.

Queen Victoria School Old Boys Association president, Anasa Vocea said the issue was trying to rebuild the school so that students can start classes again.

“We had a meeting with the Indonesian ambassador and he informed us that once the survey and damage assessment is completed; further discussions will be made with the Fijian Government before reconstruction work begins,” Mr Vocea said.

“They have informed us that once the construction plans are completed, work is expected to begin by the end of this month.

“We are glad that the Fijian Government has brought in trusted people to assist with the reconstruction of Queen Victoria School ,and we hope that we will able to bring back the school’s former glory,” he said.

Indonesian Embassy first secretary, Thomas Ambrosias confirmed they had been given the directive from the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) to conduct a damage assessment on the school.

“We want to thank the Fijian Government for their great collaboration; QVS is one of our main factors of co-operation in the areas of education,” Mr Ambrosias said.

“A team of Indonesian surveyors were deployed to the school to carry out an assessment and then a preliminary report will be submitted.

“I can also confirm that we will send out our engineers from Indonesia and those in the areas of expertise to carry out the work in QVS.”
