Silana Village Happy With PM’s Donation

The people of Silana were celebrating on Friday when Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama handed over a 23-footer fibreglass punt, a 40-horse power Yamaha outboard motor engine and FIMSA kit to the Silana Women’s Club in Tailevu.

It was a village occasion as all the villagers gathered at the school compound to witness the donation received by the village spokesperson, Aisea Cama.

The Prime Minister said the donation was to help the women with their income-generating projects.

Empowering women, he said, was one of the strategies used by the Government to strengthen their positions in the community and alleviate poverty.

Mr Bainimarama said whatever they earned from the donation would also help in their rehabilitation programme.

Speaking on behalf of the women, Mr Cama commended the donation especially when the women of Silana Village usually go out fishing.

“They sell the fish they catch and use the money they earn to help their families,” he said.

He said the men also went out fishing and now they would ask the women to use their boat because all their boats were damaged when Cyclone Winston hit.
