LTA Stricter On Heavy Loading

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will now be taking action against truck drivers and company owners who do not follow correct procedures in carrying heavy load on the roads.

LTA has taken this line of action after a container slipped off a truck and landed on another vehicle as it made a turn at the Edinburgh Road-Walu Bay roundabout last Thursday.

LTA chief executive officer Naisa Tuinaceva said: “There is a procedure of loading heavy loads and the container truck drivers and company owners should be aware of it.

“But, because of recent incident LTA will come down hard on drivers and truck owners who have been acting irresponsibly and have been neglecting in their part in ensuring the safety of other vehicles and passengers on the road,” he said.

Mr Tuinaceva said this was a concern to the authority and they would be checking on vehicles especially on how containers were secured on their trucks.
