Nadi Town was still under water last night with both ends of the town still under high levels of flooding, said Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Dr Ram Raju last night.

According to Dr Raju the Nadi River banks burst in the morning around 9am.

“At this moment it is still flooded with both ends and the curfew which was obvious as we needed the protection of the town and the properties was still in effect,” he said.

“This was done to protect business houses and the police have done a wonderful job and that was done very quickly evacuated their goods taken to higher ground or raised to higher level.”

Dr Raju said the normalcy of the town depended on the clearing of the current weather pattern.

“As there maybe another disturbance affecting us later tonight or tomorrow if it is not that bad then there are chances of clearing and weather turning to usual business,” he said.

He said business on the Denarau properties had been normal as more precautions had been emphasised.

“There was flooding on the Narewa end which reduced movement,” he said.

“Denarau properties have taken more precaution or concern.”

Dr Raju said other flooded areas in Nadi included the Nadi Back Road, Korociri, Waqadra, Sabeto, Martintar, lower Namaka areas and parts of Votualevu.

Meanwhile, other areas encountered flooding in the West are Semo Village in Nadroga and villages alongside the Sigatoka River.
