President, Major-General (ret’d) Jioji Konousi Konrote swore in a new resident magistrate at the State House yesterday.

Magistrate Gammaddagoda Priyantha joins the Magistrate Court in Fiji after his appointment was formalised by the Head of State before the Chief Justice Judge Anthony Gates and Chief Registrar Yohan Liyanage.

Mr Priyantha has a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Law as well as a Diploma in Forensic Medicine from the University of Colombo.

After having spent a few years at a private practice, he joined the Permanent Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption of Sri Lanka as Assistant Director (Legal) and prosecutor.

Mr Priyantha has more than nine years experience as a Magistrate in various provincial courts in Sri Lanka.

He has published various research articles and attended numerous international training stints.
