The Methodist Church in Fiji has made its halls and churches available for use to the National Disaster Management Office in light of recent flooding and the approaching Tropical Cyclone Zena.
“In light of the tropical disturbances and flash flooding, the church made the offer yesterday to the NDMO Director and he has already informed the Divisional Commissioners,” said Methodist Church Secretary for Communication and Overseas Mission, Rev. James Bhagwan.
“This morning we have already had discussions with the Commissioner Central and the Minister of Dilkusha Circuit for the use of Dilkusha Girls School.”
General Secretary of the Methodist Church in Fiji, Rev. Dr. Epineri Vakadewavosa, is asking all ministers and divisional superintendents of the church to liaise with District Officers and Divisional Commissioners in regards to opening halls and churches to serve as evacuation centres.
“We are particularly concerned for those in temporary shelters as a result of TC Winston and those in flood prone areas,” said Rev. Dr. Vakadewavosa.
“We are taking a pro-active measure and we ask our ministers and members to pay attention to the weather updates.”
