No Evacuation Centre Activated In North

Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea says no evacuation centre in the North has been activated yet.
He said during the Northern Emergency Committee briefing yesterday that they had to step up preparations before flooding came.
“Education officers are moving around in various schools as some school will be used as evacuation centres if the situation worsens,” Mr Vocea said.
He said the emergency team and education officers had to make sure everything was prepared before the weather situation reached its worst.
Mr Vocea said the emergency team did not expect any hindrance from school managements.
He said the Methodist Church had also made churches available as evacuation centres in North.
Meanwhile, the Northern schools remain open Jovesa Vocea said.
“All schools that were closed on Monday resume classes today (yesterday) as it is the advice from the Ministry of Education,” he said.
“The team will monitor schools and will inform divisional education officers on the situation on the ground in the Northern Division,” Mr Vocea said.
