Rape Cases Up Last Month

35 cases were reported compared

to 24 in February

 

There has been an increase in rape cases for the last month compared to February, statistics from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has revealed.

The data (See table below) relates to the number of formal indictments (information) filed in the High Courts by the ODPP last month.

A total of 35 alleged rape cases were reported last month compared to 24 in February.

Twenty-six people were charged with 24 rape offences last month and there were 21 victims of the 24 alleged rape incidents.

The data also revealed that five cases were withdrawn because of insufficient evidence.

According to the statistics, there was one serious alleged sexual offence that involved a lab technician at a hospital and a Police officer. There was also one serious alleged sexual offence that occurred at a workplace.
