Rugby Test Talks

Discussions are underway to ensure that Fiji hosts the June Test matches against Samoa and Tonga, which serves as the first qualification round to the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.
It is understood the issue of discussion is the securing of the ANZ Stadium, Suva as the venue of the Test matches.
When contacted last week the Fiji Rugby Union and Fiji Sports Council wanted questions to be emailed over but there was no reply when this edition went to press.
According to the World Rugby website the Test matches were schedule for;
June 11- Fiji v Tonga
June 18- Fiji v Samoa
June 25- Fiji v Georgia
And also the website stated the venue of these matches was yet to be confirmed.
Inside source told SUNsports, this would not be an issue if World Rugby officials had first liaised directly with FRU on the airline bookings and also the booking of the ANZ Stadium.
“The FRU which is the parent body has all the connections to make things happen.”
It is believed there could be a difficulty on one of the dates of the above matches.
According to World Rugby, the June schedule will see RWC 2019 preparations begin for Fiji, Samoa and Tonga, who will participate in a new-look Pacific Nations Cup. The first to be held in June and hosted in Fiji while the second round to be hosted by Tonga and Samoa- that will deliver two qualifiers to the showcase event, based on cumulative points over the 2016 and 2017 editions.
The worry is that if issues are not resolved, games could be shifted to Apia Park, Samoa
