A 39-year-old unemployed man, charged in relation to the death of his younger brother, has been further remanded in custody.

Aisake Vana appeared before Magistrate Sufia Hamza at the Nasinu Magistrates Court yesterday.

He is charged with one count of murder.

The charges were yesterday read out to the accused in court and he indicated he understood the charges. The accused also told the court he would seek Legal Aid Assistance.

It is alleged that an argument broke out between the accused and his younger brother over a bowl of dhal on Tuesday morning. The younger brother allegedly threw a punch at the accused before he was allegedly stabbed in retaliation.

Police prosecutor Police Constable Prathna Devi objected to bail on the grounds that the offence was serious and that the victim was the accused’s younger brother.

PC Devi also said for the accused’s own safety, he needed to be in remand.

She also made an application for the matter to be transferred to High Court.

The case has been adjourned to April 22.
