Lifeline Fiji was active 24 hours to assist the nation throughout Tropical Cyclone Zena.

The helpline received 27 calls from people asking confirmation on whether the cyclone will hit Fiji or not.

Lifeline Fiji director Archana Mani said: “Many people mostly called to ask if the cyclone is coming or not because there was not much damage or rain or strong winds as they had expected from a Category Three cyclone.”

People also called to enquire about active emergency centres that were close to their residence and some were traumatised and called for an ear to talk to.

“We received calls from two people who were traumatised by the thought of TC Zena because they had already been affected by TC Winston and flash flooding earlier and were scared they might go through the same experience again so we took them through a stress management programme to calm them down,” Ms Mani said.

Majority of the calls came between 9am and midnight.

“The important thing to note was that a lot people were already traumatised and stressed due to TC Winston and I am glad that TC Zena did not come.

“This is a suicide prevention helpline and ever since TC Winston we have opened the line to assist people with psychological First Aid or any other significant assistance we can provide,” Ms Mani said.
