Avoid spending long hours drinking grog during Ram Naumi, says Shree Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji national president Sarju Prasad.

He said it has been observed that straight after religious gatherings, the host provides grog for men.

“People easily defend themselves saying why I bother suggesting them to stop grog as they spend their own money,” Mr Prasad said.

“It is not about money, it is about spending valuable time with family and avoiding health risk.

“Religious gathering is organised for devotees to remember God and not to spend long hours in front of the grog basin.

“It is so sad to see mothers returning home along with children at night,” Mr Prasad said.

“Moreover, when men don’t get enough sleep, they don’t perform well at work and they take sick leave.

“This habit in the long-run results in health and family problems.

“Ram Naumi should be celebrated to commemorate the birth of Lord Rama,” Mr Prasad said.

“Trust in God gives meaning and purpose to life and it always makes you strong and gives you hope.

“To those devotees who suffered from the wrath of Tropical Cyclone Winston and Zena, I urge you to attend Ram Naumi gatherings organised in your area

“Do not blame God for whatever happened in your life.

“Cyclone will come and go; it is something that we cannot stop, but God will continue to exist,” he said.

“Therefore, I recommend devotees to remain faithful, encourage each other to participate in Ram Naumi gatherings and trust in God.”
