The tikina of Namosi expressed their gratitude to the Fiji Electricity Authority and the Government for the quick restoration of power after Tropical Cyclone Winston.

Tikina Namosi Landowners Committee spokeperson Sipiriano Nariva said because of the severe damage done to the power lines in Namosi, they had initially assessed for the power to be restored in December.

He said he wanted to voice their appreciation and that the children were the ones who needed the power because of their studies.

“Sometimes when our children come home from school we have to force them to do their homework at day time, because most of us use candles at night, kerosene lamp and so forth,” Mr Nariva said.

Students of Namosi Secondary School are also delighted with the restoration of power in Namosi.

Year 12 student Laila Cakaunivalu said when there was no power she was not able to do her research on the internet and type her project.

“I will have to go to Navua town and use the internet shop available to do my research and type my project,” Ms Cakaunivalu said.

“Now the power is back I don’t have to waste money going to town and come back.”

Mr Nariva said that both the primary and secondary schools had power restored and were back in the system.

“The restoration of power helps our children and teachers in their studies and school work,” he said.
