There was a poor turnout of senior athletes during the second round of the Shop N Save Athletics Fiji’s Grand Prix Series at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday.

Fiji Athletics coach Albert Miller said although it was good that the students took part but however, he was disappointed to see that most senior athletes failed to turn up.

“Unfortunately for the open events only a handful of senior athletes showed up,” Miller said.

“It was a good opportunity though for the students who showed up especially as they are preparing for the Coke Games.”

Miller said for now the fitness of the senior athletes is a concern.

“The only way to find out how fit they are is through competition. I’m hoping for a better turnout in the third round. I’m advising all senior athletes to not only take part but also to show a good example to the junior athletes.”
