Gallant Whites Scare Wellington

The Vodafone Suva suffered a 2-0 loss to Team Wellington in their first Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Champions League match in Auckland, New Zealand yesterday.
Wellington’s Ben Harris headed in the first goal in the 74th minute and again in the 81st minute slammed in his second goal.
Suva football coach Gurjit Singh said he was happy with how they performed but indicated that there is still a lot of work to be done for their upcoming matches against Hekari United and AS Lossi.
“We had a good first half, better than what I was expecting as we held Wellington to a nil-all draw,” he said.
“There were lots of opportunities for us to score but we couldn’t finish properly which was a shame. Towards the end of the game, that is where we lost our concentration and allowed Wellington to score two goals against us.”
Singh said they need to stay focussed right to the final whistle and avoid such situation where they allowed Wellington to hit back.
“The team is faced with a few niggling injuries but nothing major as they prepare for a tough game against Hekari United.”
He said Hekari United have good players and would give them a tough go. Meanwhile, former Ba defender Remueru Tekiate was solid in defence as he helped Hekari United walloped AS Lossi 5-1.
