Trading is expected to be in full swing again tomorrow for the country’s tourist capital, Nadi.

Special administrator Robin Ali said: “We have cleared up the bus station; market has being sanitised before it was opened on Saturday morning.

“We have been working 24/7 clearing and cleaning the main streets.”

Mr Ali also thanked the National Fire Authority (NFA) for assisting with their plans to get the town trading again.

“All the rubbish gathered have been stock piled and transported to the Vunato dump,” Mr Ali said.

“Some parts of the town have electricity restored especially in the Police station and the main street, but others should follow soon.

“All the town council drains were in top condition but if the level of the flooded river went above it, there is nothing we can do.

“As long as the river level is low there would be no overflows.

The other project he said Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) is working on will be revealed once they have sorted out the river problem.

Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Dr Ram Raju said the flood last week was not as bad as in 2009 and 2012.

He remains deeply concerned about flooding at the temple end.

“Flooding in some areas in town like the temple end and Nadi back road were severe.

“I think we have to find the root cause and implement a solution” he said. Edited by Naisa Koroi
