Twenty one staff members of the Turtle Island Resort are enjoying themselves in Hong Kong.

This is the first time such a large group from the resort has been part of one of their Human Resources initiative programme rewards.

Turtle Island Resort Limited Director Richard Evanson Jr said the trip was part of the staff fundraising drive and partially funded by the resort.

“Some of the staff approached us last year in January as we ran a trip to the US for our employees of the month,” he said.

“We took the top eight and we flew them over and took them all over the US as well. We went to the Las Vegas 7’s but stayed in Los Angles most of the times.”

Mr Evanson Jr added after that trip it inspired the rest of the staff to approach the management.

“The staff suggested that they wanted to fundraise for the HK 7’s so by doing that they have come forward with a plan for fundraising. The company assisted them by running some fundraising activities on the island with the guests and even micro-financing.”

He said this was one way to reward their staff with first time overseas experience and tying it up with the love of rugby.

“That is a biggest number of staff to go abroad at one time. They did their own fundraising , with the help of the resort they were able to cover their travel airfares, accommodation, spending etc,” Mr Evanson Jr said.

Group team leader Rini Tokaduadua said this trip will be an eye opener for majority of those staff travelling.

“This is part of the capacity building for the staff,” she said.

“We thank the Evanson family for donating a huge amount of money so that the staffs are supported in their love of rugby.”

The group departed on Thursday, last week and was catching live 7’s rugby at the 41 st Hong Kong Sevens over the weekend.
