Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho and senior officers from the Fiji Police Force are currently undergoing a focused workshop on violence against women and human rights.

Brigadier-General Qiliho said this was the first time such training was being carried at the most senior level.

“It is important that we start in this level and this is one of the issues that we continuously deal with everyday,” he said.

“And that violence committed against our women and children and this type is very important for the Fiji Police Force.”

Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC) co-ordinator and workshop facilitator Shamima Ali said the workshop aimed to strengthen and improve Police officer’s understanding of violence against women and girls.

The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre in partnership with United Nations Development Programme is facilitating the five day workshop.
