Four Schools In North Adopted

Four schools in the North Division have been adopted by Government.
This was confirmed by Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary Iowane Tiko during Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama’s visit to Kubulau District School in Bua Province yesterday.
The four schools adopted by Government are Kubulau District School, Vuya District School, Baravi Primary School and Nadi District School.
Kubulau District School manager Anasa Sevukiwai informed Mr Bainimarama that the school had been badly hit as a result of Tropical Cyclone Winston.
“Three classrooms were extremely damaged with one office and library,” Mr Sevukiwai said.
He said five teachers’ quarters, two cooks’ quarters, a dining room and kitchen were also damaged. Mr Sevukiwai said the school has 45 boarders and 70 day scholars.
“The boys’ and girls’ dorms have been used for classes after destruction on classrooms,” he said.
The school is serving seven villages in the Kubulau district with 115 students and five teachers.
Meanwhile, Mr Bainimarama noted all contractors have to follow a strict proper building code being put together by the Fiji Institution of Engineers.
