The woman accused of killing her new-born baby will reappear in the High Court in Suva on April 22 for her first call.

Sangeeta Devi is charged with the murder of her 2.5kilogram baby. She appeared yesterday before Magistrate Charles Ratakele at the Nasinu Magistrates Court.

Defence lawyer Jiten Reddy claimed his client’s case was to be called at 12pm but, the matter was called at 11am.

By the time Mr Reddy reached the court, Sangeeta’s case was already called.

It is alleged that on January 9, Devi gave birth to her new-born baby at their home in Khalsa Road.

She allegedly wrapped the baby using a bed sheet and then placed the bed sheet in the bathroom. It is alleged that the new born died from suffocation.

Devi remains in Police custody.
