More than 50 students from Adi Maopa Secondary School in Vanuabalavu, Lau, have moved to Suva.

School principal Isikeli Tuivuna said the school roll had dropped drastically after the ravages of Tropical Cyclone Winston on the island.

“Most of our students who moved to Suva are Year 12 and 13 students and this is mainly because our lesson coverage was way behind since the schools remained closed for more than a month,”Mr Tuivuna said.

“We thank the Government and also the New Zealand government for the timely assistance since classes have now normalised again.”

Mr Tuivuna said the school had been provided with more than 10 tents which was now being used to conduct classes.

“With the amount of rehabilitation work the New Zealand Defence Force had done for the past seven weeks, I believe that we will able to use our school building by Term Three,” he said.

Adi Maopa Secondary School, which is located in the district of Lomaloma, now has a roll of 120 students.
