The Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander, Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto, said the army band display at Korovou and Korovou Primary School yesterday was to bring smiles to the cyclone-affected people.

The visit he said was unannounced and even the Police were not notified.

“They had gone through a very challenging experience and had been shocked with what had happened,” he said.

The RFMF, he said, was with them and would provide them the support they needed.

The RFMF Band marched through Korovou Town to Korovou Primary School.

People clapped and cheered to show their appreciation and some watched from the top of the roofs.

School headteacher Ulamila Baleinamau said the visit was a real surprise to the students.

“No one told us about this visit,” she said.

She said the display was superb and the students just loved it.

Speaking to the students, band leader Major Meli Bulitiliva said they were spreading Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama’s message: “To rebuild Fiji and to build back better than before, stronger than before.”

He urged the students to study hard because they were future leaders of the nation.

Major Bulitiliva said their march and display was to bring smiles to the students affected by cyclone Winston.

Mrs Baleinamau thanked the commander for the visit.

She said the visit would be treasured by the students as this was the first visit ever of the army band to the school.

Mrs Baleinamau said the RFMF engineers had helped fix the roofs of two classrooms damaged by Cyclone Winston.

She said they were now using the classrooms.
