Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama’s Government will not invest money in building churches and halls.

During a press conference at Grand Eastern Hotel in Labasa on Wednesday evening Mr Bainimarama said it was his Government’s policy.

“During my three days tour to affected schools and villagers I have emphasised that my Government will not use money to build churches and halls,” Mr Bainimarama said.

“This is our policy and our focus after Tropical Cyclone Winston is to rebuild schools, houses, roads and jetties.”

He said villagers have to build their own churches and village hall.

Mr Bainimarama said if the Government build churches it would cost them a lot of money.

He further explained that there are many denominations of different faith.

“The main priority of the Government is rebuilding schools and we are doing what we can to make sure they continue,” Mr Bainimarama said.

Meanwhile, he was not able to complete his third day Northern tour because of bad weather conditions.
