The Commander of the Republic of Military Forces Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto visited soldiers deployed to cyclone affected areas in Tailevu and Rakiraki on Thursday.

He was accompanied by the Commanding Officer of the RFMF Engineers, Lieutenant Colonel Semi Mocelutu, and the RFMF Band.

Lieutenant Colonel Mocelutu said after the march through Korovou and a display at Korovou Primary School, Rear Admiral Naupoto visited Naivicula Primary School at Naivicula Village, Tailevu.

The army band gave another performance which students and teachers were thrilled with. He stopped again at Nasautoka Village.

From Nasautoka the RFMF delegation visited Rakiraki District School.

He also visited the soldiers manning the distribution of rations at Rakiraki.

Lieutenant Colonel Mocelutu said the RFMF band display really lifted the morale of the affected people.

He said with the New Zealand Defence Force completing their rehabilitation work in the islands, the RFMF Engineers and the RFMF Support Team would be deployed to carry on with the rebuilding work.

“They would be involved with the building of permanent structures,” he said.

He said a squadron was now on stand – by and 40 had been deployed to Vanuabalavu on Wednesday.

“The 40 is made up of engineers and some from the support team,” he said.

Lieutenant Colonel Mocelutu said the Commander’s visit not only lifted the morale of the soldiers but the affected people too.
