There is now a decline in the number of conjunctivitis cases in the Central Division, says Ministry of Health and Medical Services Permanent Secretary Dr Mecuisela Tuicakau.

The Central Division had recorded the highest number of cases of conjunctivitis.

“There are more than 5000 cases of conjunctivitis recorded only in Suva, but now it’s declining,” Mr Tuicakau said.

“In health centres and hospitals in Central Division, the doctors and nurses were treating at least 50 to 100 cases of conjunctivitis daily.”

Meanwhile, the ministry is waiting for the reports from western, northern and eastern divisions to determine the total number of conjunctivitis virus cases recorded so far.
