Flooding over the Urata River crossing at Bulileka Village, Vanua Levu, left many residents in the area stranded yesterday morning.

Heavy rain experienced the previous night brought with it debris that were clogged up at the crossing, preventing the residents from crossing over.

Bulileka Villager Panapasa Rokociri said the villagers woke up the next day only to see water flooding the crossing.

He said people were stranded at both ends of the bridge since 7:30am and had to wait until the waters receded.

Mr Rokociri said authorities would need to work on the crossing to prevent further flooding.

“The residents have raised this issue to relevant authorities many times but nothing is being done yet,” he said.
