Want to see Singapore City from high above? Then you have to go on the world renowned Singapore Flyer – a giant ferris wheel right in the heart of the City.

This is just one of the many things you can do when you visit this Asian City.

I got this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity thanks to Fiji Airways and its twice weekly Nadi-Singapore flights.

The national airline, in partnership with Singapore Tourism Board, took journalists from five local media organisations on family of Singapore and what Fijians wanting to travel to Singapore can do.

At a cost of only SG$32, you can go on the Singapore Flyer making a whole round in 28 minutes being as high up as 165 metres .

It has been described as an observation wheel and opened in 2008 with its 28 air-conditioned capsules accommodating 28 passengers.

One of the capsules is reserved for VIP guests only.

Trust me when I say most attractions in Singapore have long queues and thus if you want to avoid the long queues, try getting yourself an Express Pass which allows you to pass all the others and go straight through without much wait.

The Singapore Flyer used to be the world’s tallest Ferris wheel until the 167.6 metres High Roller, which is 2.6 metres taller than the Singapore Flyer, opened on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada US in 2014.

Before the Singapore Flyer, the tallest Ferris wheel used to be the Star of Nanchang in China at 160 metres tall.

The experience

You must be wondering what is the experience like when you get on board the Singapore Flyer.

Well, you will not even realise when the 28 minutes is up.

You might look at the Singapore Flyer from far away and think it is not moving – but it definitely keeps moving all day and much of night as well.

Once you get inside the capsule, you cannot fail to get awed by the views.

On the coastal end, you see hundreds of ships in the harbour waiting to come in or go out.

Moving inland, you see how the Singapore Government has utilised the river to make it into a dam before it goes out into the sea.

You also can see the Singapore National Stadium where the Singapore 7s will be held. And then of course there is the Marina Bay Sands – the most famous resort and complex in Singapore City.

You also see the statue of the Merlion – the symbol of the founder situated along the Singapore Riverfront.

In addition, you also see the many sky scrapers and high raised buildings which make Singapore City the financial hub.

So if you are planning a vacation, try travelling to Singapore.

From the onset, you might think it is expensive country, but the distances travelled are very less compared to some of the much developed countries and you end up saving travelling time and in turn money.

Take advantage of Fiji Airways’ new direct flights from Nadi to Singapore which has opened up new connectivity opportunities for all Fijians.
