Outstanding Year for Coral Coast Hoteliers: Hopgood

The last twelve months had been an extremely positive time for the Coral Coast.

These were the comments of the Chapter chairman, Peter Hopgood at the Coral Coast chapter of Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association Annual General Meeting last Tuesday.

He said, “This is particularly with the opening of the new maternity ward at the Sigatoka District Hospital on January 21, 2015.

Mr Hopgood stated that the hoteliers were proud to be able to assist Government in the development of this facility.

– The Coral Coast FHTA donated over $600,000 to the project.

– Warwick and Naviti Resorts undertook the renovations and make over of the doctors and nurses quarters at Korolevu Health Centre.

– An Eye Camera was purchased for the Sigatoka District Hospital Eye Clinic and was installed in mid June 2015. This new facility has been a great asset in the detection of eye problems associated with diabetes and other eye issues.

– Another successful Golf Day was held with the resorts raising over $70,000.

He said “All proceeds raised will go towards constructing a new medevac helipad at the Sigatoka District Hospital. This will be our main projects for 2016.”

Mr Hopgood added he and the General Managers of the resorts on the Coral Coast were very proud that they could donate over $100,000 to Prime Minister’s Cyclone Winston Appeal.

Mr Hopgood said, “The goal of the new committee is to market the Coral Coast as Fiji’s premier holiday destination.

“To support our local community, in particular work with government on the development of a new medevac facility at the Sigatoka District Hospital.

“Bring all stakeholders on the Coral Coast together on a monthly basis to discuss issues that have an impact on our community. This includes Police, Town Council, Business Houses, Health Professionals, Regional Government and Resort Operators.”
