Government is keen to look into issues surrounding Fijian seasonal workers in Australia, says Semi Koroilavesau.

The Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations said he would leave for Australia today.

This is after issues were raised by Fijian workers in Australia under the seasonal workers programme that they were allegedly being exploited by their employers.

“I am going to meet my Australian counterpart to discuss the seasonal workers programme on Monday.

“I believe Fijians under the seasonal workers programme are aware that I will be coming to Australia.

“And I hope that my visit will be a fruitful one; where I will be discussing with my Australian counterparts some issues surrounding the seasonal workers programme and to look at other opportunities,” he said.

Mr Koroilavesau said since the report on the alleged exploitation of Fijians working under the seasonal workers programme in Australia by their employers; there had been no reports received from Australian authorities on the issues.
