Woman Killed In Ra Accident

A woman died instantly in a car crash while on her way from Suva to Rakiraki to be in time for Ram Naumi celebrations on Friday.
Vidya Wati had recently moved to Dogopatu in Rakiraki from Lautoka with her family but their house built on the land they acquired was destroyed completely by Cyclone Winston.
According to Police sources, Mrs Wati and her family then travelled to Nausori to stay with relatives because they did not have a house.
She wanted to celebrate Ram Naumi with relatives in Rakiraki.
A post mortem examination is expected to be conducted soon.
Her daughter, Vimi Vinita Karan, 40, was still admitted at the Lautoka Hospital yesterday and is said to be in a stable condition.
Police spokesperson Inspector Josaia Weicavu said the vehicle they were travelling in had veered off the road and tumbled several times at Burenitu in Ra, along the Kings Road.
Inspector Weicavu said a 31-year-old driver was in Police custody pending investigations.
“We again advise drivers to be more responsible on our road,” Inspector Weicavu said.
“Just avoid over-speeding if you want to survive on our roads.”
Inspector Weicavu said with the current adverse weather condition, roads would be slippery and drivers were advised to be vigilant and drive with extreme care and attention.
“Remember it is better to arrive home late then getting involved in an accident,” he said.
The national road death toll now stands at 11 compared to 18 for the same period last year.
