The Western Amateur Boxing Fiji is kick-starting their first programme on Friday, May 27, at Cuvu Top in Sigatoka.

This was confirmed yesterday by WABF president Faiyaz Ali who indicated that they have been given the green light by the Fiji Amateur Boxing Association.

“We are also grateful to Naidiri Boxing Promotion headed by Mohammed Rafiq who agreed to our request to hold the programme on their property at Cuvu Top,” he said yesterday.

“They have gone out of their way to clean-up the spot for us to hold the event and it’s encouraging to have such kind-hearted people who have boxing at heart.”

Ali said they are calling on those who are interested to take up the sport to come forward and be part of the programme.

“In actual fact, we are planning to hold a monthly amateur boxing programme and we are inviting young men from Navosa, Nadroga and even those from other parts of the Western division to come and join us.”

He said holding such programmes help young people to stay occupied rather than for them to stay idle and later get in trouble with the law.

“The first programme is held on a Friday and starts at 4pm and finishes off early so people can go back to their respective villages or settlements. It’s going to be exciting as we are going to have it on open air,” Ali added.
