The Telecom Fijiana take on Japan today in the Bowl semifinals of the Langford 7s at Westhills Stadium, Canada.

Fijiana finished fourth in their pool losing to New Zealand and USA 26-5 and 24-12 respectively before pulling off a 15-10 win against Spain yesterday. Fiji Rugby Women’s coaching director Chris Cracknell said though their overall performance was much better than last week they still needed to grasp the concept of offloading the ball.

“I wouldn’t say our game was disappointing, it was more frustration,” Cracknell said.

“The girls performed better than last week, however, our selection of when to offload and when not to in all three games cost us dearly. In defence we were caught going too high in the tackle at times as well. Its fine margins in this game and those fine margins at the moment are costing us.”

Coming face-to-face with Japan will not be easy, Cracknell says, the morale amongst the Fijiana players is high and continue to remain positive.

“Japan is well-drilled and organised, the girls are starting to click and despite today’s disappointment the girls remain positive and I know will give their all tomorrow.”
