President Major General (ret’d) Jioji Konrote congratulated our Vodafone Fijian Sevens team for the impressive performance displayed at the Singapore over the weekend.

The message was conveyed in a form of a letter Konrote had written to the head coach of the Vodafone Fijian sevens team Ben Ryan on Monday.

The letter commended the national sevens team as they brought together the unity and support of the people of Fiji through their performance in the pool games right up to the finals.

Konrote wrote: “Despite losing to a better Kenya team, I believe that the boys played well and deserve to be praised for their gallant effort.

“Importantly, the final game highlighted areas that may be exploited by our opponents and this in itself is a blessing in disguise as you continue your preparations for the Rio Olympics.”

Konrote applauded Ryan and the team management for their commitment and in particular the dedication of our warriors considering the mammoth task set before them.

He later wrote: “On behalf of all fellow citizens we follow your progress to date and I wish you the very best for the remaining tournaments in the IRB Sevens Series and your preparations for the Rio Olympics.”
