Row Leads To Suspensions

The head teacher of a Lautoka primary school has been suspended for over a month now following complaints by teachers and parents.

He is also linked to alleged misuse of school funds.

The school management has also suspended the manager who is believed to be still overseas.

The head teacher was a senior Education official before he was appointed head teacher.

Minister for Education Mahendra Reddy confirmed the events yesterday.

But he declined to disclose details.

“I am waiting for the full report of our investigation which began when the head teacher was suspended. Once I get the report then I would be able to make a comment,” Mr Reddy said.

It is believed that teachers and parents found the head teacher’s behaviour obnoxious. One teacher, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said teachers were offended by the obnoxious, abusive behaviour and conduct of the head teacher.

He said a complaint letter was written and signed by the teachers and lodged with the Ministry of Education. It is understood a team from the Education Office in Suva came down to hand the head teacher his suspension letter.

Mr Reddy said he could not say how much money was alleged to have been misused.
