Two political parties have been suspended by the Registrar of Political Parties for 30 days after failing to declare their assets, liabilities and funds.

These declarations were to have been done before December 31 last year. Not doing so contravened Section 24 of the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosure) Decree.

The suspension was handed down to the People’s Democratic Party and One Fiji Party.

PDP general secretary Aman Ravindra Singh when contacted yesterday afternoon said: “I’m on my way back to Lautoka and this is the first I am hearing of it.”

“I have to read it tomorrow and then and only can I make a comment.”

One Fiji Party founder Filimoni Vosarogo did not respond to calls made to his cell phone.

“The office holders and registered officers of both parties were required to submit their declarations as per the Decree to the Registrar on or before December 31 2015 for the year 2015, however until today declarations have not been received,” Mohammed Saneem, Registrar of Political Parties said.

If the parties have still not sorted out the matter at the end of the suspension, they are given another 30 days to fix it or face deregistration.
