Prince, who defined the sounds of the ‘80s with songs such as “Kiss” and “Purple Rain” passed away yesterday.

CNN reported the 57-year-old singer was found by Police unresponsive in an elevator at his Paisley Park residence. However, details of his death have not been specified.

The news of his death brought an overflow of tributes on social media.

Local artists said the loss would be a big blow to the music and film industry locally and internationally.

Vude King, Seru Serevi said the American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and actor made a great impact among the local singers.

“Prince has influenced a lot of our local singers and even me; he came in with a totally different approach to stage craft etc and that caught the eyes a lot of people,” Mr Serevi said.

“We mourn his passing on but he has left a legacy with his copies,”he said.

A two-time national music award winner and locally-renowned sound engineer, Rusiate Ralulu echoed Serevi’s sentiments.

“His music was full of energy and he could dance and perform on stage and this is something that is very rare nowadays,” Mr Ralulu said.

“Prince made a huge impact all over the world and he will surely be missed.”

Among celebrities, US President Barrack Obama also joined millions of fans around the world in mourning the death of music legend.

Mr Obama, in a released statement from the White House, said: “Michelle and I join millions of fans from around the world in mourning the sudden death of Prince.”

He has sold over 100 million records worldwide making him as one of the best selling artists of all time.
