North victims of the recent natural disasters will continue to receive relief supplies until May 9.

Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea announced this on Thursday.

He said distribution had been done in stages, because of the lack of storage capacity in the affected areas.

In other parts of the country, quarterly supplies were given in one delivery.

“The team does not want to distribute food rations in bulk for three months for affected areas in the North, as people still live in temporary shelters like tarpaulins and tents,”  he said.

Mr Vocea said that was why the  NDMO team was rationing the food distribution fortnightly.

“The North NDMO team is on second phase of ration distribution. I have urged the planning section and those who are responsible for the ration delivery to put their heads together to try complete the operation in the next 15 days,” he said.

He thanked the non-governmental organisations for their co-operation in helping the North NDMO team during the rehabilitation work in the Northern Division.

He said the rehabilitation programme was still half-way.
