The Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort on the Coral Coast have organised a walk-a-thon to assist students of Nadroga-Navosa province affected by Cyclone Winston and Sigatoka Special School.

The Outrigger Walk for Kids Walk-a-thon, a project spearheaded by the resort’s sales, marketing and reservations department, is scheduled for April 30.

Resort general manager Peter Hopgood said a trade training workshop would be established as part of the programme to assist children with special needs and those affected by TC Winston.

He said this would allow children to learn trade skills which would assist them in finding employment.

“It is also a day dedicated to fostering a greater sense of partnership within the Sigatoka community and promoting the virtues of a healthy lifestyle,” Mr Hopgood said.

“If enough people sponsor me, I will personally walk not only from the resort to the school, but back to the resort, a distance of 21.5km,” he added.

He said the event would be a 10.5km walk from Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort to the Sigatoka Special.

Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports, IIiesa Delana, would officiate the event as chief guest. Edited by Filipe Naigulevu
