Former Policeman Gets 2 Years For Bribery

Former Police detective Corporal Setoki Taveta, who was charged with three counts of bribery, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment.

It was alleged that in 2013 Taveta, accepted an advantage totaling to F$1650 from one Areez Ahmed Khan.

The defendant had pleaded not guilty to the charges on May 27, 2014 and Magistrate Alipate Mataitini had conducted a full trial on January 19,  2015.

On April 8, 2015 the court found the defendant guilty as charged on all three counts.
