New date for finals

The Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League finals have been moved back to May 3. This was confirmed yesterday by the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League Association indicating that the venue is still Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.
The Under-19 grand final features defending champions Ba Provincial Freebird Institute and Navosa Central College.
FSSRLA treasurer Laisiasa Corerega said, it would be tough to decide the winner.
“Navosa Central will be no easy walk in the park for Ba Pro,” he said.
“We are expecting a thrilling grand final and the thing that makes it even more exciting is that it is anyone’s game.
“The thing with Navosa Central is that they have a lot of union players and they play a running game so we will be expecting them to run the ball a lot.
“Ba Pro on the other hand is sticking to the basics and they use their big forwards a lot creating an impact in the midfield. These are some of the differences we have seen in the two teams.”
Nasinu Secondary School’s U15 is the only Southern school in the finals, Corerega says, it is a shame that no southern schools were able to make the finals.
“Even though the southern schools have played more games they still have not understood the basics of the sport compared with the western schools. I think because there are lot of schools in the southern zone, the development officers are not able to go to all of them. Whereas, in the west, there are less schools and they really make use of their time with the development officers. But we are hoping to see an improvement in that in time to come,” he added.
