Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says he will not be attending the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) meeting in Port Vila, Vanuatu, on May 8.

He said he would be attending the Queen’s Birthday celebrations at Windsor Castle in London with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces band.

He said yesterday that he had been invited by the Queen.

He said the Port Vila meeting would discuss the appointment of Amena Yauvoli as MSG director-general.

He said Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu had questioned the system used to appoint Mr Yauvoli. He said PNG and Vanutau were opposing it saying it was wrong.

“That’s what they are saying,” he said.

“They want our next meeting in Vila to discuss it.”

Minister for Foreign Affairs Ratu Inoke Kubuabola is likely to represent Fiji.
