14 years for rape of ex-wife

A 37-year-old taxi driver, who has been found guilty of raping his ex-wife, has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment.

He was charged with one count of rape and one count of assault with an intention to commit rape.

High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo handed down the sentence with a non-parole period of 12 years.

Justice Temo inverted the majority opinion of the assessors who were present in the trial.

 

 

Security guard jailed for 12 years for rape

A security officer of a local university has been sentenced to 12 years 4 months imprisonment with a non-parole period of 10 years after he was found guilty of rape.

Josefa Tukuna was found guilty at the High Court in Suva for raping a student.

The incident took place in November 2012 within the university corridor.

Justice Fernando said it was clear that the accused took advantage of the complainant.
