SODELPA yesterday topped up the Prime Minister’s National Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Fund with $77,000.

Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa said the donation was raised from 10 per cent of SODELPA parliamentarians’ annual salary and from other donors.

The handover was made outside Parliament to the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

Ro Teimumu said: “We decided in the SODELPA caucus that the best way to do this would be a deduction of 10 per cent from our salary to assist with the work that Government was doing.

“This (donation) also includes the Australian and New Zealand government and other donors who have come forward to assist us.

“We hope that it will be used fittingly and appropriately for those affected by the cyclone.”

Prime Minister Bainimarama thanked the party for its efforts in providing support in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Winston.
