Speaker forces Ratu Isoa to withdraw statement.

The “rubbish” label Opposition whip Ratu Isoa Tikotikoca made against Government’s assistance to help victims of Tropical Cyclone Winston was withdrawn in Parliament yesterday.

Ratu Isoa had labelled the relief work by Government after Cyclone Winston as “rubbish” but Speaker to Parliament, Dr Jiko Luveni, ordered Ratu Isoa to withdraw the statement.

He made these comments while the Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum was responding to a supplementary question posed by Opposition MP, Niko Nawaikula.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum then refuted Ratu Isoa saying it was not rubbish. Ratu Isoa responded to the Speaker saying he didn’t have to explain himself.

Dr Luveni then lashed back saying that making such comments in Parliament was not acceptable and he would have raised his issue through a supplementary question.

Ratu Isoa later withdrew the statement.
