All Focus On Game Day

Our third day in Brazil started at 7am with devotion before we had breakfast at 10am. The boys had their second training session and had to do some polishing-up before tomorrow’s match.

The weather is now getting better and not like the last few days where it was very cold. All is well and the boys are settling well into the new environment where everything here is all about football. We are staying at the Atletico Football Club Academy in Curitiba, Brazil which has 10 playing fields and all facilities needed for a football club to camp and train.

Every morning we are greeted by more than 100 players who are fulltime development players at the academy.  The grade teams for Atletico are from Under-15, 17, 19, 23 and the senior team.

Our players are getting confident just by watching them every morning especially at the way they are doing the routine exercise.

We are here as a family and the players know the reason of this tour. Everyone is eager to learn from the Brazilians and get the taste of their style of football.

Our captain Alvin Singh said the boys are awaiting the match tomorrow against Atletico, a Series B team.

They will be good and we know playing against them will be a great way to learn especially when we are preparing for the Rio Olympic Games in August.

Singh said every player has a dream to play against the Brazilians as they are born to play football and they follow it religiously.

Coach Frank Farina said the boys started training and were a bit flat but they finished strongly. He thinks the players are yet to adjust with the time and environment here.

Farina said they are ready for the match tomorrow.

“We are playing a good side and they will play possession football and break quickly on counter attacks,” he warned.

Farina said Brazilian players are known for their skills and possession play and it’s going to be a completely new level to what our players have been used to. All the players are fit and there is no serious injuries and the team is left with 20 players after striker Saula Waqa and utility Antonio Tuivuna were dropped, Farina said he will use all the players in the four matches and test different combinations.

He has named a strong side with veteran Simione Tamanisau in goal, defender Singh, Jale Dreloa, Manasa Nawakula and Filipe Baravilala. Midfield will be Samuela Kautoga, Tevita Warainivalu, Nickel Chand, while in the striking force will be Samuela Nabenia, Napolioni Qasevakatini and Rusiate Materenga.

So far everything is good in camp and the players are eager to learn more. At the moment the players are enjoying their lovely breakfast, lunch and dinner but coach Farina is always there watching their diet and as always very strict on time. That’s all for today and till tomorrow… Ni sa moce!
