Several members of ladies’ communities in Suva stepped away from their normal routine this week to witness the “Indonesian Cultural Performance and Art Exhibition” that was organised by the Indonesian Embassy.

The event was held at the Play House, at Selbourne Street in Suva.

It was officially opened by the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Fiji, Gary RM Jusuf.  Mr Jusuf mentioned in his speech that Indonesia, home to 250 million people, also has diverse art and culture.

The Embassy therefore held this event for the public in Fiji to get a glimpse of Indonesia’s culture and way of life, as well as to gain more knowledge on the country that has more than 13,000 islands and more than 200 ethnic groups.

All throughout the event the guests were presented with full entertainment of Indonesian traditional bamboo instrument “Angklung and Arumba” performance, “Batik” fashion show as well as a fine taste of Indonesian traditional culinary along with several of Indonesian products including Batik material and Indonesian accessories.

One of the audiences from the Ladies Community in Suva mentioned that she was particularly enjoying the Indonesian bamboo instrument interaction session for it was her first time learning to play the Angklung instrument.

Another highlight of the event was the unique art exhibition by two well-known Fijian artists who happen to be alumni of Indonesian Art and Culture Scholarship, Irami Buli and Esala Talebula presented their magnificent painting art works all throughout the event.
