Increase In Home Fires A Concern

The National Fire Authority (NFA) said it had noted an increase in the number of home fires in the last few days.

“Negligence, especially by the homeowners, has led to fires which is a great concern to us,” chief fire officer Qionilau Moceitai said.

The NFA advises homeowners to be mindful and pay more attention to naked fire ignition sources.

Some precautionary measures home owners can follow is to check their electrical wiring at home to ensure it is not damaged and most importantly to ensure that before going to bed or leaving home for work, etc, all fire ignition sources are checked or if need be, put out.

So far, NFA has attended to 29 structural fires from January to April 2016

“Our advice to home owners is to be mindful of fire safety and be cautious as not to leave fire ignition sources unattended and children are not to be left unsupervised at home,” Mr Mocetai said.
